Recap of June’s Graphic Novel Workshop

Another super-sweet event by AIGA Gainesville: the Graphic Novel Workshop with published sequential artist, author, and self-professed paranormal investigator Andre Frattino. This stellar workshop was hands-on and chock-full of useful design information. Co-hosted by Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW), it was a full house at SAW’s Depot Park studios for the two-hour presentation and drawing workshop.

Andre’s animated talk included his own personal back-story and process as a sequential artist, with an overview of the history of graphic novels. Details included what type of pens and pencils are best utilized for comics and graphic novels; how to convert pencil drawings into digital format; and the many creative minds involved in making an idea come to life. Andre gave input on participants’ sketches, panels and layouts. Bonus: Andre signed copies of his books, and included caricatures of our attendees in the margins. Score!

Many thanks go out to Andre Frattino, Sequential Artists Workshop, AIGA GNV’s Programming Director Jessica Speckman, and our eager workshop attendees for making a successful day of our Graphic Novel Workshop. We think this could be a regular thing!
